Gothik the Harvester - Naxxramas boss guide

Tactics for Gothic Reaper in Naxxramas (3.3.5a): waves of hells on two sides, ghostly versions, Soul Harvest phase and quick kill of the boss.
Review
Gothic Reaper is the second boss of the Naxxramas Military District, a necromancer standing on the balcony. For almost the entire battle, the raid does not hit the boss itself, but clears out waves of summoned hells, divided by gates into “living” and “dead” halves of the room. A slain Merciless Hell returns as a Phantom Hell on the other side. When the waves end, Gothic flies down - then it’s stupid tank-and-spank at speed.
- Current tactics 3.3.5: the entire raid is on the Gothic side, the gate breaks the division mechanics - the ghosts come running themselves.
- Mines CD by ~2:30: when the central gate opens, a crowd of ghosts flies in under total AoE.
- The boss has low HP - as soon as he flies off the balcony with a living raid, the battle is almost won.
Combat phases
10 seconds after the pool, the gates close and waves of Merciless Hells begin to spawn: first the students, from ~1:00 the death knights, from ~2:00 the horsemen. Those killed by the hell return as Phantoms on the opposite side. In the WotLK version, it is easier to keep the entire raid on one side: at ~2:30 the central gate opens and the ghosts come running together.
- Spawn waves by timer
- Killed Hell → Ghost on the Other Side
- Gate opening ~2:30 → AoE burst
Gothic descends and teleports between the sides, dropping aggro each time - tanks must quickly re-aggro. CastsDark Arrow on the tank and stacksSoul Harvest for the entire raid. He has little HP, the task is to burn him before the stacksSoul Harvest will kill the raid.
- Teleport with aggro reset
- Dark Arrow by tank
- Soul Harvest (−10% stats per stack)
Abilities
Positioning
Classic - the raid was divided in half into “live” and “dead” sides, with half tanks/healers/dps in each. In WotLK 3.3.5 it is easier to gather the entire raid on the Gothic side and break the waves there, and at ~2:30 meet an AoE crowd of ghosts from the opened gate.
Role Tips
- Keep aggro from the balcony: hit Gothic with a ranged ability while he is at the top.
- In phase 2, Gothic teleports and resets aggro - instantly reaggro with a poke/taunt.
- DK tank - Anti-Magic Shell on the approach of ghost students (their AoE is the sickest).
- There is little raid damage, the main blow is to the tank fromArrows of Darknessin phase 2.
- Peak load - influx of ghosts at the gate: keep an AoE tank.
- Curse of Tongues from the lock makes healing much easier in phase 2.
- Hells have little HP - competition for damage is high, save CD for the AoE phase at the gate.
- Target Priority: Riders (Unclean Aura)→ knights → students.
- As soon as Gothic is below, we switch to him and burn until victory, untilSoul Harvest didn't collect stacks.
