Loatheb - Naxxramas boss guide

Tactics for Loathib, the third and final boss of the Plague Quarter of Naxxramas. Check for heals and DPS race: there is almost no healing, everything rests on the spore crit buff and rotation of heals in a three-second window.

⏱ Berserk: hard berserk around 12:30 (+500% damage, instant wipe), but the real limit earlier is soft enrage from the growing Inevitable Doom around the 5th minute

Review

Lothib (anagram of the word healbot) is the final, third boss of the Plague Quarter of Naxxramas, NPC 16011. Stands still, no positioning is needed: it’s a stupid tank-and-spank with two strings - Dead aura cuts all healing for 17 sec out of 20, and spores give a crit buff. You win not with healing, but with speed: take down the boss before the raid withers under the Inevitable Doom.

General tips
  • Naxx without hardmodes: only 10N and 25N, the mechanics are the same, only the numbers and loot differ.
  • Absorbs (PW: Shield, Sacred Shield, Shadow Protection Potion) work under aura - this is your main healing tool, not direct heals.
  • Tank and healers should NOT take the spore buff: it nullifies the threat and breaks the aggro/healing set (healing under Fungal Creep still crits, but the threat is 0).
  • Pali tank works great: Lothib is undead, plus you can cheat by healing yourself in the window.
  • DK presses Icebound Fortitude / Anti-Magic Shell under the Doom tick - they cut shadow damage and farm runic.

Abilities

Deadly Aura
Hill
Every ~20-21 sec, Lothib puts an aura on the entire raid, which 100% cuts ALL incoming healing (heals, bows, sweats, healstones, drains) for 17 sec. Absorb shields are NOT affected by the aura.
Action: Only heal in the 3-4 second window when the aura subsides. Precast a large heal 2-3 seconds before removal. Between the windows - keep absorbers and, if you can, dpsit.
Death Bud
Raid damage
Raid-wide DoT: the damage ticks for a few seconds, then the additional one explodes. damage upon expiration. According to comments - about ~2.5k at 10ppl and ~4k at 25ppl once every ~30 seconds. Will not dispel.
Action: Nothing active - endure and keep HP through absorption; sink the raid in the healing window before the explosion.
Inevitable doom
Raid damage
Soft enrage. First cast ~after 90 seconds (for some sources - at the 2nd minute), then every 30 seconds; after ~5 minutes of battle - every 15 seconds. 10 seconds after the cast, it hits the entire raid within a radius of 100 yards for large shadow damage (~4k at lvl 80).
Action: Absorb and knock down with cooldowns (AMS/IBF for DK, Shadow Protection Pot, healstone - but pot/stone only outside the aura). The longer the fight, the more often Rock - hence the DPS race.
Call controversy
Other
Periodically (~every 30 sec) spawns a spore (NPC 16286) along the edge of the room. The spore slowly creeps towards the boss; kills in almost one hit and upon death places a Fungal Creep on the 5 closest players within a 10 yard radius.
Action: Collect spores in rotating groups. Stand next to the spore at the moment of death to catch the buff. Tank/healers - do not approach.
Mycelium explosion
Raid damage
Spore buff: +50% to the crit chance of all spells and abilities, but the actions do NOT cause threat (-100% threat). Lasts ~2 minutes, usually lasts until the next spore cycle.
Action: Dps and caster hills are a must. The tank and the main healer of the aggro set should be avoided (0 threat breaks the role).

Positioning

There is no special arrangement. The tank keeps the boss in place, miles behind, range and heals in their position to the side. The point of the arrangement is only in disputes: it is more convenient to pull the boss so that the disputes spawn from the side of the caster camp.

🛡 Tank
Lothiba tanks where he stands; There's almost no need to unwrap it. Move the boss only so that the spore dies not next to the tank. Optional: hold the boss so that the spore passes through the raid camp.
✨ Healer
They stand in a group with range DPS for effective AoE healing (CoH, Chain Heal, Wild Growth). Heels are divided by rotation: someone leads the tank, someone leads the raid. DO NOT catch the spore buff.
⚔DD
Miles behind the boss, range at its point. They are divided into 2 groups for spores (casters / miles) and take turns taking Fungal Creep. Under the buff - max DPS.

Role Tips

🛡 Tips for the tank
  • Optimize for defense/survival more than usual - you won't be healed for almost the entire battle.
  • Fill up the threat supply in the first ~2-3 minutes; when everyone has the spore buff (0 threat), you can take Fungal Creep yourself and add damage.
  • If you accidentally caught the spore buff ahead of time, throw Vigilance on DPS without the buff to gain at least a little threat.
  • A Pali tank can cheat: crit healing on itself in the aura window (+ talent for crit healing) greatly relieves healers.
✨ Tips for healer
  • Divide the zones in advance: one on the tank, the other(s) on the raid - the window is only 3-4 seconds.
  • Precast: start a large heal 2-3 seconds before the aura is removed, so that it lies exactly in the window.
  • Absorbs on top of everything: Disc priest with PW: Shield and fell with Sacred Shield here, cast in a circle constantly.
  • Put on a haste-gear even at the cost of a spellpaver - you won’t have enough of a split second for the third heal in the window.
  • Rezto Druid: roll HoTs (Rejuv/Lifebloom) with explosion timing on the window; Save Tranquility for the end of the battle.
  • Between the windows - DPS if you can, and keep the spore buff on you (but watch out for the threat).
⚔ DD Tips
  • Always be in the 5 closest to a dying spore - Fungal Creep increases crit by 50%.
  • Full heat under the buff; without a buff, be careful with burst until the tank gains threat.
  • Healstone/sweat - only in a 3-second window (they do not work under an aura); bows are useless under aura.
  • Hero/Bloodlust is better earlier - if the DPS is low, there will be a chance to finish off later.
  • Ret-pali: DO NOT use Seal of Blood/Martyr - there is no one to heal self-damage.
  • Affliction-warlock: cast Haunt so that the return of the heal falls on the window - it relieves the healers.
