Review

Sharpwing is Veranus, the proto-dragon ancestor from the Storm Peaks: Loken captured her, and Ignis riveted iron plates to her skin. An optional boss without hardmode, usually comes second or third. While the expedition dwarves repair the four harpoon cannons, the raid fights off waves of iron dwarves from the drilling machines under fireballs and Lava bombs from the air. As soon as the required number of harpoons are fired, she is chained to the ground, the Burst window. Below 50% it sits forever: tank swap on Melting Armor and race with stacks of Flame Strike.

25 Normal~12,500,000 (approximately, according to players)
General tips
  • The battle starts through a dialogue with the expedition commander - there is no trash talk in front of the boss.
  • You need 2 harpoons in 10 and 4 in 25 (REQ_CHAIN_COUNT in the script): as soon as there are enough, the boss sits down and stands for ~30 seconds.
  • Lava bomb (blue ball) is the main reason for wipes: run out instantly, not to be confused with the Fireball (it will arrive in any case, there is no point in running from it).
  • Achievement “Clean Shave”: take down the boss in no more than 2 air phases - press hero on the first landing.
  • Achievement “Iron Dwarf, medium-rare”: expose the dwarves to the boss’s Fiery Breath on landing - the tank turns the adds into a cone.
  • After each takeoff - Wing Cleave: scatters everyone, be prepared to run back and intercept the adds.

Combat phases

Phase 1 Phase 1 - Air: Harpoons and Dwarves Start of battle, ~2 minutes per cycle

The boss hangs in the air and is invulnerable (all damage to her above 440 in Z is reduced to zero). Every ~45 sec, 2–3 (10) / 2–4 (25) groups emerge from the drilling machines: Dark Rune Guard (Storm Strike), Dark Rune Sentinel (Chain Lightning, kicks) and sometimes Dark Rune Sentinel (Whirlwind - one-shot of rags). They fly in parallelFireballs every 4 sec and Lava Bombs every 13 sec. Dwarven engineers are repairing harpoons - protect them.

  • Protecting Engineers
  • Kick Chain Lightning Marines
  • Range focus on sentries
  • Run out of Lava Bombs
Phase 2 Phase 2 - Chained: Burst Window Shot 2 harpoons (10) / 4 (25)

The boss falls and remains chained for ~30 seconds. All dps goes to her, all cd and hero. After 30 seconds she warns with an emote, blowingFire Breath and takes off withWing cut, scattering the raid. The cycle repeats until you hit 50%.

  • Full burst of all CDs
  • Fire Breath before takeoff
  • Wing Cleave = spread
Phase 3 Phase 3 - Land Forever 50% boss HP

Below 50%, on the next takeoff, she instead remains on the ground forever (emote about permanent landing), drops aggro and runs to the farthest target - the tank needs to be taunted instantly. Further:Fire Breath cone every 20 sec, Lava Bomb every 13 sec,Melting Armor on the tank every 10 sec andFlame Strike on target every 7 sec. The adds don't come anymore.

  • Instant taunt after landing
  • Tank swap for 2 stacksMelting Armor
  • Kite in a circle from Lava Bombs
  • Race with stacksFlame Strike

Abilities

Fireball
Raid damage F.1
Every ~4 sec in the air phase (and ~2 sec after take-off): fire damage to a random player. It's aimed and guaranteed to hit - there's no point in running away.
Action: It's just sick. The combination of “ball + chain lightning” on one target is dangerous - keep the raid at the top of HP and scattered.
Lava Bomb
Raid damage
Every ~13 sec: a blue ball falls to a point and leaves a puddle of fire, burning out those standing in it in a couple of seconds. In the air phase, aims at the one closest to the boss; on the ground - according to the current target.
Action: Run out instantly, even before the ball lands (zoom out the camera: /console CameraDistanceMaxFactor 4). Not to be confused with Fireball. In the script this is spell 63236 (in the client it is “Lava Bomb”).
Fire Breath
Tank
13,125–16,875 fire damage in a cone in front of the boss. Casts before each takeoff and every 20 seconds in the ground phase.
Action: The boss always faces away from the raid, miles hit from the side/behind. When landing, you can put iron dwarves in the cone - this is the achievement “Iron dwarf, medium-rare.”
Wing Cleave
Raid damage F.2
Each time it takes off: scatters everyone around the boss. Sometimes it arrives in a row if the landing is delayed.
Action: Don't panic - just run back to your points and tanks to immediately intercept the adds. Rogs can survive casting through Massacre.
Melting Armor
Tank F.3
Every 10 sec on a melee target: −20% armor, attack speed and movement speed for 20 sec, stacks. At 5 stacks, Molten Armor (spell 64774) is triggered: -100% to everything and complete immobilization for 20 sec.
Action: Tank-swap at 2 stacks - you can’t bring it to the fifth, an immobilized tank eats Fire Breath at point-blank range.
Flame Strike
Debuff F.3
Every 7 sec on the current target: +1000 to fire damage taken for 1 minute, stacks. Soft timer for the ground phase - the longer it lasts, the more deadly Fire Breath and Lava Bombs are.
Action: The swap tank also resets this; phase 3 - race, burn the remaining CD.
Vortex
Other F.1
Channel 4 sec: normal damage +300 to everyone around the add. On a rag - an actual one-shot (up to 30k on non-tanks).
Action: Sentinels are the priority focus of the range, they started the channel - the miles are scattering. They tank away from the raid.
Chain Lightning
Other F.1
Cast 1.5 sec, up to 5 targets, damage increases with each jump (up to ~10k per target). The sentinels cast frequently and from a great distance.
Action: Kicks and stuns - assign interruptions. The raid stands scattered so that lightning does not jump across the group.
Berserk
Berserk
After 10 minutes of battle: damage +900%, attack speed +150% - wipe. At release the timer was 8 minutes, Blizzard raised it with a hotfix.
Action: Guideline: reach 50% in 1–2 landings. If you haven’t reached phase 3 by the third landing, you’ll hit the timer.

Positioning

Phase 1: the raid is divided into 2 groups (10) or 3 (25) - a group per drilling machine spawn zone, each with a tank and a healer, people scattered 10+ meters away. The harpoons are behind, the assigned DPS is running towards them. Phase 3: The boss kites in a circle along a line on the floor, range in the center, miles on the inside.

🛡 Tank
P1: one tank at a time to the spawn zone, quickly pick up all the adds and pull together groups for AoE; keep the sentries separate from the raid. P3: instant taunt after permanent landing (the boss goes to the farthest target), then swap 2 stacks of Melting Armor and slow kite in a circle.
✨ Healer
One heal per group in P1, plus one central one for backup and for the DPS running towards the harpoons. Shield discipline rules: the combination of “Fireball + Chain Lightning” kills a rag in a couple of seconds. In P3, the whole focus is on tanks under stacks.
⚔DD
P1: range is required for sentries (Whirlwind one-shots in miles), miles - for guards with kicks. The designated player runs to the harpoons as soon as they are ready. On landing - EVERYONE switches to the boss, you will finish off the adds after.

Role Tips

🛡 Tips for the tank
  • Take the sentries (Whirlwind) away from the raid right away - this is the only add that really kills.
  • On landing, turn the adds into a coneFire Breath: and the damage is free, and the “Iron Dwarf, medium-rare” achievement will drip.
  • P3: after a permanent landing, the boss drops aggro and runs to the farthest one - the taunt must be ready in advance.
  • Swap for 2 stacks, not 4: at 5 stacks, Molten Armor immobilizes you right under your breath.
✨ Tips for healer
  • Keep the raid at the top: death is almost always from a bunchFireball + Chain lightning, not from mechanics alone.
  • Discipline with Barrier is the strongest choice in P1 due to the constant random damage.
  • Healing the DPS running towards the harpoons is a separate task; he remains alone, away from groups.
  • P3: under 4+ stacksStrike the flameThe damage to the tank grows like an avalanche - keep a large CD towards the end.
⚔ DD Tips
  • Range by sentries, miles by guards - not the other way around: Whirlwind one-shots miles.
  • Throw kicks at the Marines' Chain Lightning - it hits up to 5 targets with increasing damage.
  • Hiro - for the first landing: the goal is to reach 50% in 1-2 air phases (the "Clean Shave" achievement).
  • Blue ball under your feet - cast and run; Dead DPS does no damage.
